Throughout my trip to Vancouver, I didn’t really talk shop with anybody except for the Wednesday before I left as I met up with the Livestock boys, Chris and Gary Bone. As well I got the chance to check out Gary’s distro company takeFIVE. Tucked away in a multi-zoned area on Vancouver’s East side, the warehouse and office houses a showroom with their roster of brands including HUF, Alife, Addict, G-SHOCK, Keep and The Hundreds. It’s always good to get a perspective from a successful entity as they inevitably offer an angle I really can’t see since we’re positioned in different spots. We did chat about the current product landscape and how some feel it is stagnant and boring (to an extent) but the root of this downturn is something unclear to me. Is it due to over-saturation or is it really cause shit is sucking that bad? Will there be a chance for things to pick up, or has the constant bombardment of product dug us into a huge hole? Don’t get me wrong, the majority of the stuff that goes up on HB is stuff that we like, we can’t necessarily wear it, but we do have a certain appreciation for it. And last I checked Hypebeast’s front page wasn’t exactly slowing down… maybe we’re just easy to please haha. It’s also interesting to hear a retailer’s take on bringing on new brands and their particular approach to deciding how to take on new brands. In many ways it parallels our decision on content but the agenda is sometimes a bit different since we both maintain different goals. After that little meeting went to this Greek spot, Stepho’s. Everybody seems to rave about Stepho’s and lines out the door are pretty common, probably cause it’s mostly pretty cheap (nothing > $12 CAD) and they give you a grip of food. It was just alright for the most part but my lamb was unreal. The Skytrain x Science World globe had me thinking Disneyland for a minute…

What’s Vancouver without a used-rig and a used-dome?
