You might have stumbled across this blog aspect of EugeneKan.com before… so it’s not an “official” launch… but as of this day I largely consider it to be officially legit. I finally brought things around and worked out most of the bugs to consider it relatively close to what I wanted in terms of presentation etc. Some might find it really cookie-cutter and template like, which I don’t necessarily disagree, but given the resources things have been ok. The “EUGENE KAN” really needs to go and the thick-ass banner border needs to go but I guess there’s problems changing it as of right now. Oh yeh, and the banner keeps bouncing… as my one friend puts it, it makes her anxious. Definitely some changes I’d want to make but couldn’t get them done. I actually wanted to have this done by mid-August… fast-forward many months later haha… but that’s how it always goes. Big thanks to my friend Richard who put in a lot of time and effort in coding this for me cause I have zero background in this stuff aside from maybe some old school Geocities and Angelfire HTML under my belt.
If you’re wondering why I started this… the About section touches upon this a bit. But basically, I wanted a platform to talk about shit I personally found interesting. Stuff that went much beyond the superficial, that is beyond the final product of fashion that is so likened to what I do with Hypebeast. I wanted to put together something that really investigates the back-end, the so-called foundation of how things become what they are. No need to throw out heavily over-used statements that you’ve all heard before, but in this day in age, I felt that the journey was far too often over-looked in favor of the final destination. That’s mostly a crock of shit to me so why not delve further into matters. When we re-launched features on Hypebeast (sorry everything seems to be a play off Hypebeast), but I had a few goals in mind. Ideally, you’d come away having read something of substance that brought a new sense of inspiration, education and insight. Maybe it didn’t fufill all three of those elements but hopefully at least the box for one of them was ticked off. Of course the big one is that the people I find interesting with a good story to tell don’t necessarily fall in the so-called realm of relevancy with Hypebeast.
For the most part, my content between this blog and my Hypebeast Staff Blog have been the same, but going forward I’ll definitely distinguish things. Things I think aren’t necessarily fit for both mediums, I’ll largely just reserve for this one. I can’t exactly swear to my heart’s content over at the Hypebeast blog and sometimes I’d rather talk about some controversial shit that would probably be best if I left the Hypebeast affiliation out of it haha. Not saying I have something up my sleeve, but you never know.
