Here’s a list of links I thought worth sharing over the last few days. I’ll try to make these every few days rather than weekly. Weekly is just way too much and takes forever to play catch-up when you’re trying to read everything. One thing I sort of disliked about people just randomly throwing out links was that they never really put their 2 cents in… the title doesn’t always give enough away to pull you in, so hopefully the short summaries will give you a better idea of what you’re potentially about to click.

*If you’re always on the go, I’m a huge advocate for Instapaper. Basically you can bookmark links to read on your mobile device later and it can strip away all the unnecessary imagery to load more quickly.
**If you encounter a login page for a NY Times article (yes there are quite a few of them…), I highly suggest signing up for a free account or else use this dummy one I set up.

M.I.T. Ushers in Biking 2.0 with Copenhagen Wheel
KERS (Kinetic Energy Return System) on a bike means TURBO BOOST… further cements the fact that all that F1 technology does have real world relevance.
Surreal Estate | Tiger’s Other Mansion
Waiting in the shadows and something I think will largely go un-touched for the time being is Tiger’s Other Mansion. And looks like no Jupiter Club = playing old Tiger Woods Golf versions on XBOX 360.
‘Sell on wheels’: EBay’s first-ever mobile boutique arrives Thursday in L.A.
This sort of defeats the purpose of eBay doesn’t it? Don’t I go to Amazon for regularly and semi-regularly stocked items?
Sports Medicine Pioneer Subject of Doping Inquiry
I’m not all that convinced as of right now… I think he seems clean… but Tiger’s name is sure to draw a lot of attention to this.
Left Waiting by Yankees, Matsui Jumps to Angels
Pro sports and baseball is still at the end of the day a business. I don’t really follow baseball so I don’t know what sort of outfield contributions Matsui has but why eat up the DH spot when you can have a more versatile player fill that role I guess.
A Deluge of Data Shapes a New Era in Computing
So there you have it… information overload looks to fundamentally change how science works. I still think the challenges in the next few years will lie in how society starts to cope with data filtration.
“Dr. Gray called the shift a “fourth paradigm.” The first three paradigms were experimental, theoretical and, more recently, computational science. He explained this paradigm as an evolving era in which an “exaflood” of observational data was threatening to overwhelm scientists. The only way to cope with it, he argued, was a new generation of scientific computing tools to manage, visualize and analyze the data flood.”
Japanese Obsessions
There’s a reason why the Japanese have a very specific word for uber-nerd and highly involved hobbies called otaku… the breeding ground for this? Potential causes: wealth, postmodernism, conformism and despair.
There Is No ‘Humane’ Executition
It’s not so much the notion of capital punishment that I think is the issue, it’s the incarceration of innocent people. If people knew 100% the person sentenced to death was truly guilty, what perception would they have?
How Do You Develop Your Skills
In Chinese, there’s this notion of “paying your school fees”… sometimes taking that paycut or doing something for little (or even losing money) might be a worthy lesson.
When Lowering the Odds of Cancer Isn’t Enough
I think the whole notion of cancer being consistently thrown around has de-sensitized us as a whole. Hence why it’s so much easier to just pass on a semi-miracle pill… it just seems like an inevitability of life now.
The Definitive Guide to Fermented Foods
So much antibiotics are pumped into our food supply… makes sense to supplement or at least combat this with probiotics (healthy bacteria in your gut). It’s a foundation of good health pretty much.
Recession Elsewhere, but It’s Booming in China
So are we seeing China become the new America in terms of consumption? How does one’s cultural beliefs (China x saving) intersect with the economy… interesting times ahead.
Want Everyone To See Your Credit Card Transactions? Of Course You Do. Meet Blippy
It’s all fun and games until you get drunk and accidentally charge those wild Vegas whores on your Blippy credit card.
A Few Thoughts About Jersey Shore, Week 2
No other show has stolen the TV headlines quite like Jersey Shore, The Animal’s always comical Week 2 round-up.
Mammogram Math
A lot of controversy regarding mammograms and pushing the age up for testing… which seems counterintuitive… until you actually break down the math. Quantitatives making things make sense FOREVER.
Poor Children Likelier to Get Antipsychotics
No real surprise here right? Quick fix is never a quick fix.
