Taken from #3 On China’s Hainan Island, the Boom is Deafening

Recently switched over to an Android-based phone and I must say, reading has become a new join. Although Instapaper on the E71 was just “ok” and got the job done, my new phone makes it much easier to read (larger screen) and that shit is muuuuuuuuuuuuch faster. Got some stuff popping off soon, if you’re on my Facebook you’ve probably seen the event invite for an upcoming photo show I’m doing.

*If you’re always on the go, I’m a huge advocate for Instapaper. Basically you can bookmark links to read on your mobile device later and it can strip away all the unnecessary imagery to load more quickly.
**If you encounter a login page for a NY Times article (yes there are quite a few of them…), I highly suggest signing up for a free account or else use this dummy one I set up.

China Corner

#1. Coming Visit May Signal Easing by China on Currency
Hmmm, seems a bit weird. I thought China would have been standing their ground. But more so, the article does talk about to what extent the Yuan is under (or even in the eyes of some) over-valued.

#2. Chinese Bidders Conquer Art Market
Taking back what’s theirs!!! Ballers of China reclaim their art, and in the process create yet another bubble? But some of it is just straight weird, like buying back shit that was ripped off from temples?

#3. On China’s Hainan Island, the Boom is Deafening
Hainan looks to dispossess Macau as the place to be but no word yet on if they can gamble. Much like the art article previous… the Hainan Island housing bubble! And yeh, some of these dudes seem mad ignorant haha.

#4. A Call for Hong Kong to Clean the Air
I’ve sort of said it before, visually I can see the smog, but I don’t really feel it. I mean I smell it all the time but it’s not like I have trouble breathing or coughing… we’ll see how it goes in 10 years with my lung cancer.

#5. Evolving Sexual Tensions
In the nature kingdom, how does differences in sexual physiology hold back a species from evolving. Pretty interesting shit!

#6. Hennessey Venom GT: A $600K mid-engine Cobra for the 21st Century
Hennessey tuners… ALL THAT IS MAN… I’ve been a fan since the Viper 800 TT.

#7. End the War on Fat – It Could be making us sicker
As I’ve campaigned before, fat isn’t the enemy. But this article does a great job of explaining in very succinct terms why you should be weary of demonzing dietary fat.

#8. ***Video: We Are The World
WOW… the Japanese are sometimes inept at political correctness and race haha. We Are The World by Michael Jackson gets flipped upside down!

#9. Video: Outrageously Complicated Rube Goldberg Machines
Don’t know what a Rube Goldberg machine is? You probably actually do… it’s those machines that go through a series of different tasks before completing a final one.

#10. SSS – Retailers Want to Open Stores in Canada Where Things Feel Safer

#11. Pictures: I’m Not An Artist
Some cool GIFs, that’s it.

#12. SSS – NY Hot Spot Matsuri Throws A Japanese Penis Party (really)
Ummm yes, pee-pee shaped Japanese food.

#13. ***In E-Book Era, You Can’t Even Judge a Cover
Really cool article that talks about how with the creation of the e-reader, you can no longer get that free advertisement that often came with seeing the cover of a book.

#14. ***For Photographers, Image of a Shrinking Path
I’ve had this feeling for quite some time and you could easily replace DJing with photography, two industries with similar problems in that the accessibility makes it tough for professionals. But the last paragraph sums it up nicely:

“The quality of licensed imagery is virtually indistinguishable now from the quality of images they might commission,” Mr. Klein said. Yet “the price point that the client, or customer, is charged is a fraction of the price point which they would pay for a professional image.”

#15. ***Overqualifed? Yes, but Happy to Have a Job
How small businesses are reaping the rewards of over-qualified staff.

#16. Homer Simpson isn’t the only would-be ‘Messiah’ in Jerusalem
Every so often, people travel to the Holy Land and get this idea THEY ARE the Messiah haha.

#17. ***Euro-Trashed
Op-Ed on why Germany SHOULD leave the EU as well as how better equipped Greece would be to deal with their problems if they weren’t tied to the Euro.

#18. Push to Eat Local Food is Hampered by Shortage
Everybody wants that organic/locally grown shit but not enough butchers to slaughter the meat.

#19. ***Instinctive sleeping and resting postures; an anthropological and zoological approach to treatment of low back and joint pain
This is perhaps the GEEKIEST article I’ve ever read. I guess the human body is more than well-adapted to remedy backpain and make sure your penis doesn’t get bitten by insects haha.

#20. Pfizer Gives Details on Payments to Doctors
Don’t hold a lot of weight in this… cause they can pretty much just make up numbers. But fuck Pfizer and fuck drug companies.

#21. ***Army food: the battle of the bulge
How can the armed forces let those fuckers eat pizza???

#22. Risks Seen in Cholesterol Drug Use in Healthy People
Wait? I am fully healthy but you want to feed me statins (Cholesterol-lowering) as a preventative measure… although it would be in the shitty processed foods anyways.

#23. ***The Question of Seasonality in Fructose Availability
This is just pretty crazy. On the notion that fructose is generally available in the late summer, this coupled with less sun (vitamin D) supposedly makes you fatter for the winter season.

#24. ***In Michelle Wie’s Gallery, Artistry Off the Course
Golfer Michelle Wie’s off-course releases, vegan crap and art.

I actually went to an “underground” Thai restaurant last night, they’re quite big in Asia but gaining traction elsewhere.

Pineapple x strawberries = pineberry. It doesn’t look appetizing. It reminds me of moldy berries.

Would we have been in better shape if we had women making more conscious, less greed-driven decisions?

I couldn’t even pick out the taste of truffle in a dish, but the whole culture is fascinating.

#32. Blue Jeans vs. Communism All Over Again
A group of Scandanvians look to create denim exclusively in North Korea…

#33. Three Meals Superior for Appetite
I’ve been following this 16-8 (16 hours of fasting – 8 hour window of eating), it’s not that bad. But here’s the research to back it up.
