Not to beat around the bush, this is a rant. I alluded to this a few weeks ago on my Twitter. In this day in age, I find it a gross misuse of resources when we still feel the need to print temporary materials when a digital format is just as good if not better. Invites to parties, catalogs, they all have a finite timeline for the most part. Why not go totally digital and reduce your footprint? Unlike a book and to a lesser degree a magazine, I’m not going to go around collecting loose leaf linesheets or super heavy duty invites that could cut through rock. (Unrelated Sidenote: Don’t kid yourself, are you REALLY going to go back and re-read that book or magazine? Maybe this lack of space in HK has created a disdain for not so much as literature but physical literature) It still surprises me that while all this talk about being eco-conscious, this one still alludes a lot of people. I found it extremely ironic when a recent brand priding itself on its love of the ocean and its preservation, was still wanting to send me physical catalogs. Maybe I’m seeing it from a different angle than say a buyer, who prefers tangible materials, but in all honesty if you’re still an advocate for printed materials, give your head a shake.
