JUXTAPOSITION for wejetset & Nalden Wallpaper

So awhile back, Taj Reid of the travel-orientated retailer wejetset asked for myphotographic participation in a series he was curating for Nalden. He basically wanted me to put together a picture that was from Hong Kong which would be available for download as wallpaper. There wasn’t really a theme, but being the quasi-intellectual wannabe that I am, I looked into my photos to see what could represent something a little more meaningful. In Hong Kong, you see the extremes of rich and poor, old and new, everywhere. This photography was hopefully a representation of Hong Kong as a juxtaposition. It could have been set up a bit better with more of the high-rise building off on the left taking up more of the frame albeit capturing this theme wasn’t something I was actively thinking of communicating when I took the picture.

Managing editor of Hypebeast, Eugene Kan about Hong Kong: “If Hong Kong had to embody one literary term, it would be juxtaposition. Every where you look is a strong contrast between old and new, rich and poor. It’s seen over buildings, people, food, you name it. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, as these hyper contrasts are crucial to helping you distinguish the beauty at opposite sides of the spectrum.”

You can download the wallpaper here as well as check out some of the other submissions including my man Rob from UNDFTD and jeffstaple.

P.S. This title is pretentious eh?
P.P.S. If the picture looks familiar, I used it in a post before.
