The whole notion of organic growth isn’t exactly bullshit. But when can it be too organic in which growth doesn’t happen at any sort of meaningful pace. That’s sort of the double edged sword anybody with a side gig and passion project will endure. For those that have a steady money maker, you’re able to take things at a slower pace for sure.
On the one hand, ideas and decisions have a lot of time to marinate… IF they’re actively playing some sort of role in your thought process. But not everybody with a busy 9 to 5er can think outside the context of work, meaning more often then not these ideas aren’t really able to develop cause you’re concentrating on other things. After putting in your eight hours, the after-work shift can often be relatively laborious when you’re tired and all you want to do is simply chill out.
Complacency sets in and you try to wonder, why am I doing this. I’m sure few are immune to this and you wonder what do I need to do to turn it around. I’m not the only one and this Lifehacker article about how comfort kills productivity references this to a certain degree. Comfort and getting shit done are often not correlational, maybe that’s why rich kids can often amount to nothing and live off the family’s coat tails despite exponentially greater resources than the average person.
Comfort is only temporary though in my case I’d like to think, it’s all bound to undergo a shake-up at some point where you realize that you want more, not just monetarily but creatively.
