I was recently in Los Angeles for the unveiling of the 2011 Nike MAG. Don’t get me wrong, cool shoe and all but without the proper conceptualization and planning, the shoe would have never been the proverbial home run that it is. I do however wonder how much of the popularity is derived from the contextualization of the sneaker within Back to the Future II.

Would… the popularity be the same had the movie sucked?
Would… Nike have been successful with any design or is the design truly the driving force behind the shoe?

I guess the one thing to take away is, for those who didn’t grow up with the movie and were born in the 90s, what impact does the shoe have with them? Anybody with little cousins know their reaction to the sneaker?
