I’ll throw out a cliche’d saying right off the bat… heres the FIRST Link Dump of 2010… Ok got that out of the way, hope you all had a good and eventful New Years Eve. I managed to get pretty bunged up, woke up at 6:30 pm the next day in my bed, still wearing all my clothes and the unimaginable combo of coconut (still un-chewed in my mouth) and the sour tang of cheap gin in my mouth. Luckily I felt good enough to roll out of bed although bending over was out of the question and it did make me be weary of any fast, deliberate movements while showering haha.

*If you’re always on the go, I’m a huge advocate for Instapaper. Basically you can bookmark links to read on your mobile device later and it can strip away all the unnecessary imagery to load more quickly.
**If you encounter a login page for a NY Times article (yes there are quite a few of them…), I highly suggest signing up for a free account or else use this dummy one I set up.

Is Canned Food Safe to Eat?
BPA-leaching (the stuff previously in Nalgene bottles) is something you should be aware of. The shit that gives off Estrogen-like traits, messes with your reproductive organs as well as being “linked” to cancer etc.
Unwatchable Avatar: Hollywood Greed Could Kill 3D
I guess if you show-up late and wear glasses, 3D movies aren’t for you.
Year-end Entrepreneur Notes and Rants
Nooka’s Matthew Waldman goes off on how difficult it is to secure loans for small businesses and how the banks in America don’t really give a shit about this sector.
Dressing the Part: How Important Are Business Clothes If You Work from Home?
I’m obviously I’m a work-from-home guy but getting dressed up in business attire to work from home to trick yourself in being more productive, S-T-U-P-I-D.
The White Triplex | Three Engines, 1500 hp, and One Tragic Result
The innovative of technology has obviously come quite far as The Selvedge Yard recounts an unfortunate incident back in the 1920s that involved 3 engines, 1500 hp and a failed attempt at a land speed record. As always, some great imagery accompany’s the event.
Getting to Know Christian Audigier
For somebody who cities Ralph Lauren as a fashion inspiration and icon, Christian Audigier’s design language is thoroughly lost in translation.
Adding Fees and Fences on Media Sites
You see how many times I link a NY Times article on here… I think it’s a great resource. But all good things should have its price and if somebody like the NY Times goes a paying format, I’ll buck up to read it. Internet x free shit is no longer the status quo but all these people putting up a stink about it will soon change their perspectives. All it takes is a general dulling or blunting of the feeling regarding paid content. iTunes perhaps is the best example, buying content isn’t as big of a deal now than it was before and it will continue to be that way. A systematic change and re-defining of the Internet landscape is inevitable as business practices change.
Search, but You May Not Find
Google, all mighty champion of a “free and open” Internet… really isn’t all that it seems. From a business perspective, they obviously keep their bread & butter such as search algorithms a closely regarded secret. But the deep dirty secret of Google is that you can pay to play and have your website listed higher up on the search results. Who really goes past page 2 or 3 anyways?
Kim Peek, Inspiration for ‘Rain Man,’ Dies at 58
The man who served as the inspiration behind the 1988 film “Rain Man” passes away, leaving behind him a legacy of greatness. The man boasts some interesting and quirky talents as a by-product of his autism as well as developing some often lacking social skills for somebody with autism.
The Decade in Restaurant Trends
I rarely eat out and never at super nice places but I still love my food and although I hate “Decade” and “Top 10 of 2009” lists, this was cool to read nevertheless.
In Light and Heat, Gadgets Claim to Fight Acne
I guess bringing the doctor’s office to your home is the next big thing. Shit ain’t cheap as your dropping a few hundred bucks for something with dubious claims. But like male pattern baldness, I think acne is one aspect of health that many people are willing to drop the money into.
Down on the Farm, an Endless Cycle of Waste
With the US food industry in a shambles due to various salmonella and e. coli recalls and scares, find out the science behind literally shit-cleaning of livestock. If you don’t have a proper method of clearing waste in these “factory farms”… the animals literally live in their out shit and piss, and you wonder why and how e. coli from cow manure gets into your food?
LA Gang Life | Dickies, Thugs & Guns: The Photography of Robert Yager
I’d never previously heard of Robert Yager, but his photography is quite similar to the likes of Boogie and Estevan Oriol. Growing up far removed from the lifestyle he documents, another The Selvedge Yard look into the often unseen Hispanic subculture of gang life.
Seeking a Cure for Optimism
Over the last few months, I’ve tried to make a conscious effort to be more positive and optimistic. Maybe not going so far as to lying to myself but really trying to keep a proper outlook. Yet for some reason, I found myself reverting back to my old questioning ways. Good things are still at many people’s disposals, but perhaps I’ve really been ingrained with the notion that, not everybody can win and not everybody despite their greatest efforts will succeed. Most people that read my Twitter might feel as though I’m overly negative, yet I have a basis for my apprehension in many instances, not point tricking yourself or being overly positive when it’s not justified.
Enough of my personal commentary, the article talks about how this whole “positive outlook” approach to life that is pushed and peddled really isn’t all that great and despite previous claims that you can circumvent illness/feel better about yourself through thought, some of it’s just a crock of shit.
Sarah and Her Tribe
I can’t believe I read this whole article… over a dinner by myself, at home, on New Year’s Eve haha. The book review on Sarah Palin’s book “Going Rogue” is some surreal shit, on the tip that this person was just a few steps away from potentially saddling up in the most powerful government in the world. Her general appeal to the average (and to some extent ignorant) American living between the ears of America and away from the Coasts is evident which makes you think, is there another possibility for somebody as naive as a Palin to step into office?
Designing to an Afro Beat
Move over Native American inspirations, African themes are the latest to manifest themselves in the world of fashion.
Why So Stodgy, Prada.com?
I still see branding x the Internet as a touchy subject which is why so many brands are slow to adapt a proper online presence. Even looking at our industry itself, Supreme, NEIGHBORHOOD and visvim are all labels that have been careful in their online promotion as well as their online sales. But alas, much like that previous “paid content” blurb a few links up, this will change, it has to change.
Even Less for Men to Think About
I guess tighty whities are back for dudes? I’m still more than happy with boxer briefs, thanks a lot.
The Mets Look to Canada
I didn’t really care about the beginning of the article as it focused on mostly the numbers behind Canadian representation on the New York Mets, but the second half does talk about Canadian baseball culture and how difficult it is given the fact A. So cold B. Summers are so short and probably the most important one, C. Everybody grows up playing hockey.
A Weight-Loss Resolution That’s Light on the Wallet
A ton of free/low-cost mobile applications are making it easier to adhere to your New Year’s Resolution of losing weight, although you’ll probably quit 2 months into that new 3 year gym membership you signed and put on double the weight.
Spy Agencies Failed to Collate Clues on Terror
Thanks to people that can’t do their job, I’ve pretty much lost all interest in traveling to the United States, not because of fear but because of inconvenience. There were more than a few clues tipping off the December 25th “lap bomber” as being on the extremist tip, I mean c’mon the dude’s dad even notified US officials… of course I’m sure the US agencies in charge of this have a ton of shit to keep tabs on but a Yemenese-based attacker was also on the radar set for a December attack. Many people are looking real foolish right now.
Obama Smacks Down Dick Cheney Hard
In an address posted on the White House blog, the Obama Administration brings the thunder and calls out Cheney for getting the US into it’s current mess (catalyzed by the whole event that took place on December 25th with the terrorist attack).
