Taken from link #3 – Nacho Cheese Flavored Lip Balm
No more lame-ass “link” pictures… makes perfect sense to utilize an image from something I posted. So there you have it, Link Dump Lite with only 20 things to check out. Shit surely ain’t as tedious as I write it out. I have to say check out the China x Internet Addiction article. It’s hella long but soooo worth it.

#4. New York Isn’t Silicon Valley. That’s Why They Like It
Only interesting part for me was at the end when they mentioned that the New York-area needs a Paypal-like acquisition so that the people that get paid out can start investing and growing the venture culture capital in the region.
#5. f.lux
Basically based on the previous Link Dump, I posted an article about how light affects your sleep. This program filters the amount of blue light based on the time of day/night. So at night (like now), my screen has a yellow tinge and yeh I do feel sleepy.

#7. ***The Wrong Kind of Green
This was an interesting article that talks about how some environmental movements are susceptible to corporate funding and not in a good way. I shared the article with some friends including one who has worked with Sierra Club Canada (separate from the Sierra Club which gets mentioned in the article).
I might start by clarifying that Sierra Club (U.S.) and Sierra Club Canada (who I work for) are two completely separate entities.
The author says you can’t jump over a canyon half way, which is true. But if the expanse is too large and we just keep jumping then we are no smarter then lemmings. Sometimes you need to build a bridge.
So where do you find the money for bricks and mortar? How do these organizations find the funds to fight a capitalist, resource driven economy that is backed in large part by a government that is funded by a capitalist, resourced driven economy? The author suggests grassroots support and wealthy philanthropists. But frankly if there was enough grassroots support for the entire environmental movement then we likely wouldn’t be having this conversation because the grassroots, the people, would have gotten involved a long time ago to demand meaningful action towards real solutions. Unfortunately, in large part, the people are demanding the wrong thing: those precious few rainforest trees (or cars, or big houses, or 3000 calories a day) and so there is supply.
But that doesn’t really answer how environmental org’s buy those bricks, just why there is a canyon in the first place.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean to defend what some of these organizations do to fund themselves but I am just saying it is a tough fight that sometimes needs creative solutions, albeit solutions that should maintain your integrity. I realize I am biased but when I read articles like this I can’t help but wonder if there is a hinden agenda, perhaps one that is backed by some of that evil corporate money. Hmmm?
I guess I feel it is not as black and white as this author seems to make it and in the end, I value what I believe to be good work done by the environmental movement as a whole, including some of the organizations that are mentioned in this article.
Just my two cents.

This is a crazy fucking read. Shows how conniving the Chinese can be haha… basically rehabilitation centers have been popping up like crazy hoping to sort out the “Internet Addicted”. They utilize inhumane practices which including beatings and electric shock sessions. Often none of these center heads have any legit credentials. The story focuses around a particularly sad case where this kid gets beaten and dies.
