Taken from #19 The Big Picture: Preparing for the World Cup
Been in Canada a little under 2 weeks, feels good to set foot on North American soil. Despite working on a Hong Kong schedule 8pm – 4am, I seem to get more shit done with less distractions, all while being able to stay on top of North American business during their regular work hours. Oh yeh, it’s nice to be able to wear layers unlike the unbearably hot conditions in Hong Kong right now.

China Corner
#1. ***Power Grows for Striking Chinese Workers
On a similar note to what I touched on extensively in my review of The China Price, you can see the shift already. Workers will eventually gain the upper hand but it doesn’t seem to be all that bad for China, as it does want to rid itself of being a low-cost producer.
#2. As China’s Wages Rise, Export Prices Could Follow
Similar to #1… but on that note…
#3. China Exports Rise 48.5 Percent
… no slowdown just yet.

#4. Growing Obesity Increases Perils of Childbearing
The obesity epidemic has necessitated new ways of offering care to mothers as well as the health risks associated with giving birth to a child as an obese mother.
#5. Their Dangerous Swagger
Op-Ed article that talks about underground culture of violence and sex that seemingly permeates from a lot of “finer” schooling institutions.
#7. iPad’s Arrival in Tokyo Causes Japanese to Reflect
Once the root of innovation, Japanese companies are losing their ability to captivate their domestic audience.
#8. ***Probiotic Found in Breast Milk Helps Alleviate Digestive Disorders
Probiotics once again prove their worth.
#11. Why Change Is So Hard: Self-Control is Exhaustible
You can’t keep away from that cookie jar forever… moments of fatigue seem to be inversely related with self-control.
#12. Compression Clothing Has Little Impact on Athletic Performance, Study Suggests
I am wondering if performance and injury prevention are different. Would the same be true if they tested for injury prevention?
#13. ***David Blaine Interview by Adam Kimmel
Dope interview on David Blaine, conduced by designer Adam Kimmel. I was never huge into magic but Blaine’s act is far beyond magic as he perpetually tests the limits of the human body.
#14. Vitamin D: Sun Exposure, Supplementation and Doses
How much vitamin D should you be getting? Even 4,000 IU as recommended in the article seems low.
#15. Knowing Where to Step, Gingerly, in Iraq
For photo journalists, street smarts are the difference between living and dying (god that sounded so cliche).
#16. ***Rebel-77
Sean Reverson of Rockers NYC posts an interesting article about the union of punk and reggae and one of its seminal founders, Dennis Morris.
#17. VICE: ROCKGLOCKCOCK’s Guns is a Screwdriver
Not sure if you seen a pic of the fat, hairy guy with long hair who wields guns. Anyways, here’s his story. Just click in to see the image at least haha.
#18. ***Empathy: Students Don’t Have As Much as They Used To, Study Suggests
Basically, nobody gives a shit anymore about others due to the highly competitive nature of our society and the Internet… which in some ways magnifies those who are able to be empathetic to others in this day in age. Good people look better, everybody else looks like an asshole.
