I’ve been eager to get into video for awhile but I must admit I always thought it was something extremely difficult and complex. But like so many things, shooting and editing video is really a case of the “easy to learn, hard to master.” All I can say is, taking high-quality (stabilized shots) makes the world of a difference. I was using my camera strap braced against my neck and it seemed to work “ok,” together with the Minolta Rokkor 50mm f/1.4 (75mm after crop factor) so had I used something wider it probably would have been a lot steadier. I did pick up the cheap Sony 16mm f/2.8 (24mm after crop factor) so we’ll see how that works out.
I certainly didn’t plan this out and just figured on a Sunday morning, why not just shoot something about food and the Chinese brunch favorite, dim sum.
Given the growing HBTV platform, I’ve tried to watch and take notes on as many videos as possible. Things I probably would have overlooked before, I try to pay closer attention to including music, transitions and composition. Hopefully being more hands on will expedite the learning process.
I’m a self-confessed music ignoranus so this will be the absolute most difficult part of video editing process for me haha. The song if you haven’t heard it before is by the one and only super group, “Notorious MSG” and the track is called Dim Sum Girl.
But ultimately, I have a buddy’s stag later this year, the goal would be to shoot that.
