Link Dump – 03.28.2010

link-dump-03-28-2010

Over the last week, I had a few different people hit me up about how the standing desk has been going… It’s been over 3 weeks and I have to say I have trouble going back to sitting. Like I said before any abductor pain and tightness is gone, as is any knee pain I had. I could feel my knee being a bit loose the last few weeks (not sure of the cause) and while I can still feel it when I’m playing football, it’s fine in every day situations now. Not sure if it was correlated with the tight abductor but it was my left abductor and left knee that was bothering me. I find that now, when I do sit down, I make sure not to slouch.

In terms of setting your own desk up, one thing I may have done different would be to make sure the desk is the right height. I put my external monitor and my laptop on some books to raise it up a bit as I felt the previous height was too low. With a laptop monitor you can’t really help it but now at least when I stare at my external monitor, it’s the same height as my eyes. Oh yeh I’m sure the ladies don’t want to hear this, but I do as though my calves are getting bigger ahah and they seem stronger. This is good cause I’ve always had pinner chicken leg calves.

China’s Internet landscape seems like its own biodome, nobody can get in and survive and likewise, Chinese companies can’t leave and make it globally.

#2. Swedes Struggle to make sense of a new diet trend
Sweden’s not alone, a lot of people don’t understand high-fat, low-carb diets. But as you’ll see in a huge 6-part Leptin article at the bottom, I’ve realized low-carbin’ isn’t the best way to go always.

#3. Video: The INVENTION OF DR. NAKAMATS Trailer
A look into Japanese inventor, Dr. Nakamats who boasts an impressive 3,357 inventions… seems a little arrogant though but then again he’s designed some crazy things that we’ve all used at one point in our lives.

Just cause it didn’t take the lives of a few thousand people in one fell swoop, doesn’t mean it’s not an issue.

#13. ***Bodyweight Regulation: Leptin Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6
So basically, leptin… it’s a protein hormone found throughout your body. In abundance, it regulates hunger as well as increases metabolism. When it’s low, the opposite happens. It’s related to body fat percentages as well as having sexual functional involvement (hence why obese little girls are hitting puberty earlier and earlier). If you diet hard, fast, cut out carbs it goes down. So the goal is, how do you manipulate it so that you can take benefit of its usages for cutting… enter the carb-up and the cycling of carbs. Part 5 is probably the one that offers the most bang for your buck if you’re not going to read it all.

#20. ***The Internet Is Raising Perverts
I wonder how the fuck I’m going to raise a kid when I eventually have one… there is so much shit out there that has the ability to negatively affect a child. I’m not saying don’t tell them about it, but you do require a certain bit of life experience to understand what particular things mean and what effect they have in society. How do you explain to a 9 year old who stumbles upon a video and explaining why those two girls are naked and playing with poop…

#26. ***Pictures: They Survived the Rwandan Genocide
As a ten year old, my parents would always listen to CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) in the car and since it was more often talkshow based, there was obviously a great focus on this at the time. You never really knew much of what it represented, and what “ethnic cleansing” meant, but now you get a greater grasp of what it means. Can you imagine this going down and the widespread media attention it would garner?
